PROGRAM DETAILS
Phnom Penh became the Capital city of Cambodia in 1866. Rich in history and architecture, it was considered the pearl of Asia in the 60's until, unfortunately, in 1975 it became a ghost town during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. Since the mid 1990s, Phnom Penh has been on the upswing, reviving itself with a growing selection of restaurants, bars, and interesting art scene. Cambodia is trying to return to the splendor of the past.
Seeing the city in the late afternoon and evening, one is taken back to the glory days. Soft light falls on the buildings as the sun sets and in the evening darkness, the city lights illuminate the historic and modern buildings.
The tour begins in the afternoon, with a city tour. Start with a visit to the National Museum, filled with ancient art and sculptures. Continue to the neighboring Royal Palace, home to Cambodia's monarchy and the Silver Pagoda. Travel to the north side of the city to the small hilltop temple of Wat Phnom for a wonderful view of the city in the beautiful afternoon light. As the sun is about to set embark on a special dinner cruise on the Tonle Sap River. Watch as the city illuminates while enjoying an authentic Khmer meal.
Return to land and head to the Chinese House Lounge Bar for a cocktail. This stylish bar is housed in a beautiful traditional house on the riverfront and is the perfect way to end your evening tour of the capital.
